Make simple, spicy, and cheesy jalapeño poppers baked until golden brown.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 large jalapeño peppers
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • Cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and lightly spray with cooking spray.
  2. Cut the jalapeño peppers in half lengthwise. Use a small spoon or knife to carefully remove the seeds and white membranes. Wear gloves when handling peppers.
  3. In a medium bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, cheddar cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt. Mix until smooth and fully combined.
  4. Spoon or pipe the cheese mixture evenly into each jalapeño half.
  5. Set up a breading station: place the beaten egg in one shallow dish and the panko breadcrumbs in another.
  6. Dip the top (cheese side) of each stuffed pepper half into the egg, letting excess drip off. Then, press the cheese side firmly into the panko breadcrumbs to coat completely.
  7. Place the coated poppers, cheese-side up, on the prepared baking sheet.
  8. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the pepper edges are slightly softened.
  9. Let cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Wear gloves when cutting the jalapeños to prevent skin irritation from the capsaicin.
  • For less heat, remove all white membrane from inside the pepper.
  • If you prefer bacon wrapped poppers, wrap half a slice of bacon around each stuffed pepper before breading and baking. Adjust cooking time as needed.
