Ingredients
Scale
12 Hawaiian sweet rolls
1.5 lbs cooked, shredded chicken breast
1 cup BBQ sauce (your favorite kind)
1/2 cup water
1/4 cup melted butter
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
1 cup shredded Gouda or Pepper Jack cheese
2 tablespoons poppy seeds (optional)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
In a medium bowl, combine the shredded chicken, BBQ sauce, water, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix well until the chicken is fully coated.
Slice the entire package of Hawaiian rolls horizontally, keeping the rolls connected. Place the bottom half of the rolls in the prepared baking dish.
Spread the BBQ chicken mixture evenly over the bottom layer of rolls.
Sprinkle the shredded cheese over the chicken mixture.
Place the top half of the rolls over the cheese.
In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter and poppy seeds (if using). Brush this mixture evenly over the top of the rolls.
Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil. Bake for 15 minutes.
Remove the foil and bake for another 5 to 10 minutes, or until the cheese is fully melted and the tops of the rolls are lightly golden brown.
Slice the sliders apart along the roll lines before serving warm.
Notes
You can use rotisserie chicken for quicker preparation.
For extra flavor, add 4 slices of cooked, crumbled bacon over the cheese layer before adding the top rolls.
If you prefer a tangier flavor, use a honey BBQ sauce.
