Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 1 pound fresh broccoli florets
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce, divided
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, toss the sliced steak with 1 tablespoon of soy sauce and the cornstarch. Set aside.
  2. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the steak and cook until lightly browned, about 2-3 minutes. Remove the steak and set it aside.
  3. Add the broccoli florets to the same skillet. Stir fry for 3-4 minutes until bright green and slightly tender-crisp.
  4. Add the minced garlic and grated ginger to the broccoli. Cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  5. In a small bowl, whisk together the beef broth, remaining 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, oyster sauce, and brown sugar.
  6. Pour the sauce mixture into the skillet with the broccoli. Bring to a simmer, stirring until the sauce thickens slightly.
  7. Return the cooked steak to the skillet. Toss everything together until the beef is coated and heated through, about 1 minute.
  8. Remove from heat and drizzle with sesame oil before serving.

Notes

  • For a thicker sauce, mix 1 teaspoon of cornstarch with 1 tablespoon of cold water and stir into the simmering sauce.
  • You can substitute flank steak with sirloin or skirt steak.
  • Serve immediately over steamed rice for a complete meal.
