Make the creamiest, restaurant-quality Alfredo sauce right in your kitchen. This simple, no-fail recipe uses just a few quality ingredients and comes together in under 15 minutes. You will achieve a velvety smooth sauce perfect for any pasta dish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese, plus more for serving
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper, or to taste

Instructions

  1. Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Add the minced garlic and cook for about 1 minute until fragrant. Do not let the garlic brown.
  3. Pour in the heavy cream. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, stirring occasionally. Reduce the heat to low.
  4. Gradually whisk in the grated Parmesan cheese, a little at a time, until the cheese is fully melted and the sauce is smooth.
  5. Season with salt and pepper. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed.
  6. Remove from heat immediately. Toss with hot, cooked pasta or use over chicken or vegetables.

Notes

  • Use freshly grated Parmesan cheese for the best melting and flavor. Pre-shredded cheese often contains anti-caking agents that make the sauce gritty.
  • If the sauce seems too thick, thin it slightly with a splash of the reserved pasta cooking water.
  • This sauce is best served immediately after preparation.
