Ingredients
Scale
1 cup fresh blueberries
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup water (for syrup)
1 cup fresh lemon juice (about 4-6 lemons)
3 cups cold water (for mixing)
Ice cubes
Instructions
Combine the blueberries, 1 cup of sugar, and 1 cup of water in a small saucepan.
Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves completely and the blueberries soften, about 5 to 7 minutes.
Remove from heat and let the mixture cool slightly. Mash the blueberries with a fork or potato masher to release more juice and color.
Strain the blueberry syrup through a fine-mesh sieve into a bowl, pressing on the solids to extract all the liquid. Discard the solids.
In a large pitcher, combine the cooled blueberry syrup, fresh lemon juice, and 3 cups of cold water.
Stir well to combine all ingredients. Taste and adjust sweetness or tartness by adding more sugar dissolved in a little hot water or more lemon juice, if needed.
Serve the lemonade over ice. Garnish with fresh blueberries or lemon slices.
Notes
For a clearer lemonade, chill the syrup before straining.
If you prefer a sparkling drink, substitute 1 cup of the cold water with club soda or sparkling water when mixing.
You can use frozen blueberries instead of fresh ones; adjust cooking time slightly.
