Ingredients
Scale
1 (21 ounce) can apple pie filling
1 (15.25 ounce) box yellow cake mix
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted
1 cup caramel topping or sauce
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit if baking. Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
Pour the entire can of apple pie filling into the prepared baking dish. Spread it evenly across the bottom.
Sprinkle the dry yellow cake mix evenly over the apple pie filling layer. Do not mix.
Drizzle the melted butter evenly over the dry cake mix layer.
Pour the caramel topping over the butter layer.
Bake for 40 to 50 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and bubbly. If using a slow cooker, place the ingredients in the order listed above into a lightly greased slow cooker insert. Cook on low for 3 to 4 hours or on high for 1.5 to 2 hours.
Let the cake cool slightly before serving.
Notes
Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for the best flavor.
For a slow cooker version, use a 6-quart or larger slow cooker.
You can substitute the yellow cake mix with white or butter flavor cake mix.
