Create healthy, crunchy cinnamon apple chips right in your oven. This simple recipe is perfect for a guilt-free snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large apples (like Fuji, Gala, or Honeycrisp)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice (optional, to prevent browning)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 225°F (107°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Wash and core the apples. You can peel them if you prefer, but leaving the skin on adds nutrients and texture.
  3. Slice the apples very thinly, about 1/16 to 1/8 inch thick. A mandoline slicer works best for uniform slices, but a sharp knife will also do.
  4. In a small bowl, mix the cinnamon and nutmeg (if using).
  5. If you’re using lemon juice, lightly brush it onto both sides of the apple slices.
  6. Arrange the apple slices in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.
  7. Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly over the apple slices.
  8. Bake for 1 to 2 hours, flipping the slices halfway through. The baking time will vary depending on the thickness of your slices and your oven.
  9. Continue baking until the chips are dry and crisp. They should not feel sticky.
  10. Turn off the oven and let the chips cool completely inside the oven with the door slightly ajar. This helps them crisp up further.
  11. Once cooled, enjoy your homemade apple chips!

Notes

  • For best results, use apples that are firm and not overly ripe.
  • Ensure your apple slices are very thin for even drying and crispiness.
  • Watch the chips closely towards the end of baking to prevent burning.
  • Store cooled apple chips in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
