Make crispy, sweet banana chips using your air fryer with a simple cinnamon sugar coating.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 medium firm, slightly underripe bananas
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon coconut oil, melted

Instructions

  1. Peel the bananas and slice them very thinly, about 1/16 inch thick. Use a mandoline slicer for uniform thickness if you have one.
  2. In a small bowl, mix the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon together to create the coating mixture.
  3. In a separate medium bowl, toss the banana slices with the melted coconut oil until lightly coated.
  4. Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture over the oiled banana slices and toss gently until all slices are evenly coated.
  5. Preheat your air fryer to 320°F (160°C) for 3 minutes.
  6. Arrange the coated banana slices in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Do not overlap them; work in batches if necessary.
  7. Air fry for 8 to 12 minutes, shaking the basket gently halfway through the cooking time (around the 5-minute mark).
  8. Check the chips at 8 minutes. If they are not yet crisp, continue cooking in 1-2 minute increments until they are golden brown and crisp. Watch closely to prevent burning.
  9. Remove the chips from the air fryer and let them cool completely on a wire rack. They will crisp up more as they cool.

Notes

  • Use firm bananas; overly ripe bananas will become soft or burn easily.
  • For extra crispiness, you can lightly spray the basket with non-stick cooking spray before adding the bananas to prevent sticking.
  • If you prefer a different flavor, substitute 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg for 1/4 teaspoon of the cinnamon.
