1 pound ground beef
1 pound Italian sausage
1 large onion, chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
2 (28 ounce) cans crushed tomatoes
2 (6.5 ounce) cans tomato paste
2 (6 ounce) cans tomato sauce
1/2 cup water
2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon dried basil
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
12 lasagna noodles
16 ounces ricotta cheese
1 egg
1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 pound mozzarella cheese, shredded
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
4 tablespoons butter
4 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 cups milk
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
Instructions
In a large pot, cook ground beef and Italian sausage over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
Add onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
Stir in garlic and cook for 1 minute more.
Add crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, and water.
Season with parsley, salt, basil, oregano, and pepper.
Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat and cook for at least 1 hour, stirring occasionally.
While the sauce simmers, cook lasagna noodles according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
In a medium bowl, mix ricotta cheese, egg, parsley, salt, and pepper.
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
Spread 1 cup of meat sauce in the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking dish.
Arrange 3 lasagna noodles over the sauce.
Spread half of the ricotta mixture over the noodles.
Top with one-third of the mozzarella cheese.
Spoon 1 1/2 cups of meat sauce over the mozzarella.
