Achieve perfectly crispy chicken wings in your air fryer. This recipe uses a simple dry rub technique to give you that satisfying crunch without deep frying. Enjoy these fantastic wings for any gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs Chicken Wings (flats and drumettes)
  • 1 tablespoon Baking Powder (aluminum-free is best for crisping)
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Onion Powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Black Pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon Paprika

Instructions

  1. Pat the chicken wings completely dry using paper towels. This step is crucial for crispiness.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the baking powder, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and paprika. Mix well.
  3. Add the dried chicken wings to the bowl. Toss until every wing is evenly coated with the dry rub mixture.
  4. Preheat your air fryer to 380°F (195°C).
  5. Arrange the wings in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Do not overcrowd the basket; work in batches if necessary.
  6. Air fry for 18 minutes.
  7. After 18 minutes, open the basket and shake the wings well to move them around.
  8. Increase the air fryer temperature to 400°F (200°C).
  9. Continue to cook for another 5 to 7 minutes, or until the wings are deeply golden brown and extremely crispy.
  10. Remove from the air fryer and serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Ensure your wings are very dry before seasoning; moisture prevents crisping.
  • Baking powder reacts with the chicken skin to create tiny bubbles, which results in a super crunchy exterior.
  • Do not skip the final few minutes at a higher temperature; this sets the final crisp.
