You can achieve perfectly crunchy, golden chicken wings in your air fryer using this simple recipe. We use baking powder to get that irresistible crispness without any deep frying. These wings are fast, flavorful, and perfect for game day or a weeknight treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs chicken wings (flats and drumettes separated)
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder (not baking soda)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika

Instructions

  1. Pat the chicken wings very dry using paper towels. This step is key for crispiness.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the baking powder, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and paprika. Mix the dry rub thoroughly.
  3. Add the dried chicken wings to the bowl. Toss well until every piece is evenly coated with the dry rub mixture.
  4. Preheat your air fryer to 380°F (195°C) for about 5 minutes.
  5. Arrange the wings in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Do not overcrowd the basket; cook in batches if necessary to allow air to circulate fully.
  6. Air fry for 18 minutes, then flip the wings.
  7. Increase the temperature to 400°F (200°C) and cook for an additional 4 to 6 minutes, or until the skin is deeply golden brown and very crispy.
  8. Remove the wings from the air fryer and serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Using aluminum-free baking powder gives the best results for crisping the skin.
  • For extra flavor, you can toss the cooked wings in a light coating of your favorite wing sauce after air frying.
  • If you are cooking drumettes only, they may require 1-2 minutes less cooking time overall.
