Enjoy this warm, comforting classic: a whole baked apple filled with sweet brown sugar and fragrant cinnamon. This simple dessert brings the taste of autumn right to your table.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 medium baking apples (such as Honeycrisp or Fuji)
  • 4 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup water
  • Optional: 1 tablespoon butter (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  2. Wash the apples thoroughly. Use a sharp paring knife or an apple corer to remove the core from the top, leaving the bottom intact to create a well for the filling.
  3. In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar and cinnamon together.
  4. Spoon the sugar and cinnamon mixture evenly into the cored center of each apple. If using butter, place a small piece on top of the filling in each apple.
  5. Place the filled apples in a small baking dish.
  6. Pour the water into the bottom of the baking dish. This creates steam to keep the apples moist.
  7. Bake for 30 to 40 minutes, or until the apples are tender when pierced with a fork.
  8. Serve warm. You can spoon any remaining liquid from the pan over the apples before serving.

Notes

  • Choose firm apples that hold their shape well during baking.
  • If you prefer a softer texture, you can bake them slightly longer.
  • Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an extra treat.
