Make this Sticky Honey Garlic Chicken for a quick, family-friendly weeknight dinner. You will achieve a thick, glossy, five-star glaze coating the tender chicken pieces using simple stovetop steps. This recipe delivers big flavor fast.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce (use low sodium if preferred)
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 2 teaspoons cold water (slurry)
  • Sesame seeds, for garnish
  • Sliced green onions, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Season the cut chicken pieces generously with salt and pepper.
  2. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or pan over medium-high heat. Add the chicken and cook until golden brown and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the chicken and set it aside.
  3. Reduce the heat to medium. Add the minced garlic to the same skillet and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Do not let it burn.
  4. Pour in the honey, soy sauce, and rice vinegar (and ginger, if using). Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.
  5. Stir the cornstarch slurry well and slowly whisk it into the simmering sauce. Continue stirring until the sauce thickens and becomes glossy, about 1-2 minutes.
  6. Return the cooked chicken to the skillet. Toss quickly to coat every piece evenly with the sticky honey garlic glaze.
  7. Remove from heat immediately. Garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions before serving.

Notes

  • For extra crispy chicken, dredge the pieces lightly in flour before searing in step 2.
  • If you prefer using chicken thighs, they remain juicier during the quick cooking process.
  • Serve this dish immediately over steamed white or brown rice with a side of steamed broccoli or asparagus for a complete meal.
