Make rich, dense chocolate orange truffles quickly without using your oven. This simple recipe requires minimal ingredients and sets fast.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 ounces dark chocolate, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest, finely grated
  • 2 tablespoons orange liqueur (optional)
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder, for rolling

Instructions

  1. Place the chopped dark chocolate in a medium, heatproof bowl.
  2. Heat the heavy cream in a small saucepan over medium heat until it just begins to simmer around the edges. Do not boil.
  3. Pour the hot cream over the chopped chocolate. Let it stand undisturbed for 5 minutes to melt the chocolate.
  4. Add the softened butter, vanilla extract, orange zest, and orange liqueur (if using) to the chocolate mixture.
  5. Whisk the mixture gently starting from the center and moving outward until the ganache is smooth and fully combined.
  6. Cover the bowl and chill the ganache in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, or until firm enough to scoop.
  7. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Place the cocoa powder in a shallow dish.
  8. Use a small spoon or a cookie scoop to portion the chilled ganache. Roll each portion quickly between your palms into a smooth ball.
  9. Roll each truffle in the cocoa powder until fully coated.
  10. Store the finished truffles in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

Notes

  • If you prefer a stronger orange flavor, add an extra 1/4 teaspoon of orange zest.
  • For a firmer truffle, chill the ganache for an extra 30 minutes before rolling.
  • You can substitute milk chocolate for dark chocolate, but reduce the chilling time slightly as milk chocolate softens faster.
