Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 head broccoli, cut into florets
  • ½ cup beef broth
  • ¼ cup soy sauce

  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • Optional: red pepper flakes for heat

Instructions

  1. Heat sesame oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.

  3. Stir in chopped onion and minced garlic. Cook for 2-3 minutes until fragrant.
  4. Add broccoli florets to the skillet.
  5. In a small bowl, whisk together beef broth, soy sauce, cornstarch, and brown sugar until smooth.
  6. Pour the sauce over the beef and broccoli.
  7. Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce heat to medium-low.
  8. Cover and cook for 5-7 minutes, or until broccoli is tender-crisp and the sauce has thickened.
  9. If desired, stir in red pepper flakes for a touch of heat.
  10. Serve immediately, perhaps over rice or noodles.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for ground beef.
  • Adjust soy sauce to your taste, especially if using low-sodium soy sauce.
  • For extra vegetables, add sliced carrots or bell peppers with the broccoli.
  • Garnish with sesame seeds or chopped green onions before serving.
