Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Optional: 1/2 cup chopped nuts or chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together 1 cup of softened butter and 8 ounces of softened cream cheese until smooth.
  3. Gradually beat in 4 cups of powdered sugar until well combined.
  4. Add 4 large eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
  5. In a separate medium bowl, whisk together 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder, and 1/4 teaspoon of salt.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
  7. If using, gently fold in optional chopped nuts or chocolate chips.
  8. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared baking pan.
  9. Bake for 30-40 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the center is set. A toothpick inserted into the center should come out with moist crumbs attached.
  10. Let the bars cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares.

Notes

  • For an extra rich flavor, use high-quality butter.
  • Ensure your butter and cream cheese are truly softened for the smoothest batter.
  • Cooling completely is key to achieving clean cuts.
  • These bars store well at room temperature for up to 3 days in an airtight container.
