Make this easy Oreo Dirt Cake, a popular, no-bake dessert featuring creamy layers of pudding, cream cheese, and crushed Oreo cookies. It is a perfect, quick treat for parties and family gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package (14.3 ounces) Oreo cookies
  • 1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 container (12 ounces) frozen whipped topping, thawed (like Cool Whip)
  • 2 packages (3.9 ounces each) instant chocolate pudding mix
  • 3 cups cold milk
  • 1 container (12 ounces) frozen whipped topping, thawed (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Separate the Oreo cookies. Place the cream-filled cookies into a large zip-top bag and crush them finely using a rolling pin until they resemble dirt. Set aside about 1 cup of the crushed cookies for the top layer.
  2. In a large bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and softened butter together until smooth. Gradually add the powdered sugar and mix until fully combined.
  3. Gently fold in one container of the thawed whipped topping into the cream cheese mixture until just combined. This is your creamy layer base.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the instant chocolate pudding mix and cold milk for about 2 minutes, or until the pudding begins to thicken. Let it sit for 5 minutes to set further.
  5. Gently fold the thickened chocolate pudding into the cream cheese mixture until you have a uniform, creamy chocolate layer.
  6. In a large serving dish (a 9×13 inch pan works well), create the first layer by spreading half of the crushed Oreos on the bottom.
  7. Spread half of the creamy chocolate pudding mixture evenly over the Oreo crumbs.
  8. Repeat the layers: add the remaining crushed Oreos, followed by the remaining chocolate pudding mixture.
  9. Spread the second container of thawed whipped topping evenly over the top layer of pudding.
  10. Sprinkle the reserved 1 cup of crushed Oreos over the whipped topping to create the final ‘dirt’ look.
  11. Cover the dish and chill in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the layers to set completely before serving.

Notes

  • For a fun presentation, you can make individual servings in clear plastic cups or small flower pots.
  • If you want a richer flavor, substitute half of the milk with heavy cream when making the pudding.
  • You can use any brand of chocolate sandwich cookies for this easy layered dessert.
