Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup buttermilk
  • 2 tablespoons red food coloring
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together melted butter and 2 cups of granulated sugar until well combined.
  3. Stir in 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract and 4 large eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the buttermilk and red food coloring, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  6. In another bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with 1/4 cup granulated sugar and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract until smooth.
  7. Beat in the remaining large egg until just combined.
  8. Pour half of the red velvet batter into the prepared baking pan.
  9. Dollop spoonfuls of the cream cheese mixture over the red velvet batter.
  10. Pour the remaining red velvet batter over the cream cheese mixture.
  11. Gently swirl the batters together with a knife or skewer to create a marbled effect.
  12. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs attached.
  13. Let cool completely before cutting into squares.

Notes

  • For a deeper red color, you can use a gel-based red food coloring.
  • Ensure your cream cheese is at room temperature for a smoother cheesecake layer.
  • Do not overmix the batter, as this can result in tough brownies.
  • Allow the brownies to cool completely for cleaner cuts.
