Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sheet refrigerated pie dough
  • 2 ripe pears, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon turbinado sugar (for sprinkling)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, gently toss the sliced pears with granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and flour until evenly coated.
  3. Unroll the pie dough and place it on the prepared baking sheet.
  4. Arrange the spiced pear slices in the center of the dough, leaving a 2-inch border.
  5. Dot the pears with the small pieces of butter.
  6. Fold the border of the dough up and over the edges of the pears, pleating as needed to create a rustic crust.
  7. Brush the folded dough with the beaten egg wash and sprinkle with turbinado sugar.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the pears are tender.
  9. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Use firm but ripe pears for best results.
  • You can add a pinch of ground ginger to the spice mixture for extra warmth.
  • Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
