Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound beef sirloin, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 2-3 Thai chilies, thinly sliced (adjust to your spice preference)
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup fresh Thai basil leaves
  • 1/4 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon white pepper

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, toss the thinly sliced beef with 1 tablespoon soy sauce and cornstarch. Let it marinate for 5 minutes.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a wok or large skillet over high heat.
  3. Add the sliced Thai chilies and minced garlic. Stir-fry for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Add the marinated beef to the wok. Stir-fry until browned, about 2-3 minutes.
  5. In a small bowl, whisk together the beef broth, 2 tablespoons soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, and white pepper.
  6. Pour the sauce mixture over the beef. Bring to a simmer and cook for 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
  7. Stir in the fresh Thai basil leaves until they just begin to wilt.
  8. Serve immediately over steamed rice.

Notes

  • For a milder dish, remove the seeds from the Thai chilies before slicing.
  • If you can’t find Thai basil, regular basil can be used, but the flavor will be different.
  • Ensure your wok or skillet is very hot before adding the ingredients for a good sear.
