Ingredients
Scale
4 pork shoulder steaks (about 1 inch thick)
1/2 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
In a bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, brown sugar, vegetable oil, minced garlic, and black pepper to create the marinade.
Place the pork steaks in a resealable plastic bag or shallow dish. Pour the marinade over the steaks, ensuring they are fully coated.
Refrigerate and marinate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight.
If grilling: Preheat your grill to medium heat (about 350-400 degrees F). Remove steaks from the marinade, letting excess drip off. Grill for 5-7 minutes per side, until the internal temperature reaches 145 degrees F.
If baking: Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F. Place steaks in a baking dish. Bake for 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the internal temperature reaches 145 degrees F.
Let the steaks rest for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
For extra flavor, baste the steaks with leftover marinade during the last few minutes of cooking, but discard any marinade that touched raw meat after the initial marination period.
Pork shoulder steaks are best cooked to an internal temperature of 145 degrees F followed by a 3-minute rest.
Serve with coleslaw or baked beans for a classic cookout meal.
